Evaluates submissions for new and renewal business within our hospitality program. Works within our program authority structure to underwrite property and general liability for hospitality industry risks. Produces proposals from submission information, issues policies, processes endorsements, and maintains broker relationships.
Responsibilities and Duties:
Typically handles mid-size to larger, more complex accounts appropriate for a senior-level underwriter.
Operates within expanded delegated authority levels acceptable for the Underwriter III position and company guidelines, accepts or rejects new business and creatively uses our resources to create opportunities for all lines to ensure a profitable commercial book of business.
Rates, debits or credits business according to company underwriting and pricing guidelines within individual underwriting authority limits to price competitively but not exceedingly to ensure the account is profitable for the agency and represented carriers.
Develops on-going relationships with brokers, monitors profitability, and quality of submissions. Keeps agent up to date with underwriting and/or product changes and agent profitably.
Demonstrates comprehensive understanding of commercial package policies and various lines of business including General Liability, Property, Commercial Auto, and Excess/Umbrella coverage.
Examines and properly documents: underwriting documents such as application forms, inspection reports, insurance maps and past claims, business operations, loss experience, and property valuations.
Ability to property evaluate a risk to consider proper limits, retention, perils and valuations.
Analyzes the operations and exposures of various commercial lines risks, including new business, renewals, and policy changes. Applies standard underwriting guidelines and utilization of various online systems and reference material to thoroughly investigate and determine when to accept, reject, rescind, or modify coverage within authority limit granted.
Travels to attend and participate in agency meetings. Makes presentations during agency meetings to convey new underwriting or procedural information. Partners with representatives and agency managers to meet growth and profit goals through quality control activities. Field visits may include meeting with experienced hospitality agents and their high-value clients, handling complex hotel, restaurant, and entertainment venue risks.
We prefer candidates with:
Experience with hospitality industry underwriting and commercial package policies preferred.
Minimum of three years of commercial package underwriting experience
Superior communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to provide excellent customer service and develop strong relationships.
Four-year college degree and progress toward or completion of CPCU, AU or similar designation is strongly desired.
